In May I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to intern at Hello! Magazine's sister magazine Hello! Fashion Monthly for two weeks. The team and office was very small compared to most magazine offices and I actually had my own desk and computer for the duration. I met lots of new people such as the Editor and Deputy Editor of the magazine, and the Beauty, Picture, Features, and Style Editors. In the first week I worked alongside the full-time intern and the whole team. In the second week I was the only intern in the office so had a lot more to do.Situated near London's South Bank being able to walk along the Thames in the sun on the way to and from work just added to the experience. Everybody was so friendly, approachable and helpful - no Miranda Priestlys in sight (think The Devil Wears Prada) and made me feel settled very quickly. On my last day I was gifted a huge goodie bag of cosmetics including Nina Ricci perfume, Urban Decay eyeliners, Too Faced prism highlighters, Too Faced matte lipsticks, Pur foundation, Zoeva lipsticks and so much more!If you're thinking of interning at a fashion magazine - do it! Find out the intern or assistant email addresses if you can and email them directly with a copy of your CV and/or LinkedIn page. I was lucky enough to have a 'contact through a contact' in order to get my position, but smaller magazines like HFM are great to get your foot through the door into the world of magazines. After that you can intern at other magazines gaining more responsibility until you end up working for your fave publication! I felt I gained so much more independence and confidence as well as experience from my internship so I can't recommend them enough!
